There are three main forms of EB; Simplex, Junctional and Dystrophic. While each form affects each sufferer in a different way, all three forms are currently incurable and all are passed on genetically. EB is in no way contagious, meaning it is impossible to catch EB from someone else.

While the outcome of having EB varies greatly from case to case, the common thread that affects every sufferer are the painful blisters that occur on the skin. While some forms of EB are fatal to a young child in their first year of life, advancements in modern medicine have made it possible for most EB sufferers to live into their late twenties. Unfortunately, by the time most suffers reach this age they will succumb to an aggressive form of skin cancer known as Squamous Cell Carcinoma, which is a result of EB.
